By Nelson
I wonder why there were so many reviews presented by folks without verified as actually purchased this product from Amazon. It could be that they did not check the box or more likely they purchased this product elsewhere and wanted to review it here.
Before buying this, I bought the Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station from Amazon since it is more well known and I wanted a HD dock with eSATA for better throughput. But I was also very interested in USB 3.0 and wanted a HD dock with USB 3.0 or better yet, both eSATA and USB 3.0. Thermaltake wanted too much for their duo interface dock. This Uspeed USB 3.0 and eSATA duo caught my attention.
I wanted to find out whether one would want to use the USB 3.0 interface instead of the trusty eSATA so I used Disk Speed 2.0 from Roadkil.net to measure the throughput of both products. Here are the results.
Uspeed Superspeed USB 3.0 and eSATA
====================================
eSATA
Read Speed 110.00 MB/sec
Cache Speed 153.60 MB/sec
Access Time 14.82 ms
USB 3.0
Read Speed 111.37 MB/sec
Cache Speed 168.91 MB/sec
Access Time 15.28 ms
Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station
============================================
eSATA
Read Speed 116.07 MB/sec
Cache Speed 241.55 MB/sec
Access Time 15.43 ms
USB 2.0
Read Speed 32.73 MB/sec
Cache Speed 50.45 MB/sec
Access Time 15.31 ms
The test drive a Seagate 1.5TB 7200.11 (ST31500341AS) drive. The machine is an Intel Core i7 870 (no OC) system with 16GB RAM running the Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with pagefiles and hibernation turned off.
As you can see from the test results, the eSATA and USB 3.0 results are very close. It also shows how pathetic the USB 2.0 interface really is. That alone makes this product very appealing.
I will be publishing another review for the Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station based on the same test data.
Update:
After finishing the review for the Thermaltake unit, I wanted to find out the sustain speed difference between eSATA and USB 3.0, I tested the read and write speed for a 5.6GB (5,598,898,176 bytes) video file for both devices. The file was copied from an internally mounted Seagate 1.5TB drive to the dock mounted 1.5TB drive and then back.
Read is defined as the copy operation from external to internal. Write is defined as the copy operation from internal to external. MB is defined as 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station
===========================================
eSATA
Read : 0:58 (96.5MB/s)
Write: 1:36 (58.3MB/s)
USB 2.0
Read : 2:46 (33.7MB/s)
Write: 2:29 (37.6MB/s)
Uspeed Superspeed USB 3.0 and eSATA
====================================
eSATA
Read : 0:59 (94.9MB/s)
Write: 1:29 (62.9.4MB/s)
USB 3.0
Read : 0:59 (94.9MB/s)
Write: 1:36 (58.3MB/s)
Here the USB 2.0 interface does not looked as bad as compared to the disk speed tool report.

By A. Wiersch
I'm a software developer and these drive docks are very handy. I've owned several docks from a variety of manufacturers (Thermaltake, Vantec, etc) and this one is easily the best. It just works, is well designed, and is both USB 3.0 and eSATA. It has a very convenient on/off switch on the top, which beats the location of switches on the other docks I've had.
I was impressed with the USB 3.0 speed, which seemed to easily be more than enough for the Western Digital Green 1TB green drive that I used. The unit is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1, but USB 3.0 is a major improvement over USB 2.0, and that's the connection I will use most. NOTE: The e-SATA support is 3 Gbps (does not support 6 Gbps).
The unit includes a power adapter and both USB 3.0 and eSATA cables. It has nice LED indicators for both power (blue) and activity (red). It supports hot-swapping and capacities up to 3TB.
I do have a quibble about the manual & box grammar. It really needs to be proofread better by someone who speaks fluent English. Fortunately, the grammar doesn't seem to be reflective of the product quality and there is little need to read it. Just plug the dock into the computer and power and you should be good to go. No extra drivers should be needed (at least it wasn't for me with Windows 7).

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R8GQZ2WQKE4YN Review of the USPEED 2.5"/3.5" USB 3.0 eSATA Hard Drive Docking Station
When I purchased this drive from Amazon I had high expectations. The reviews were out of this world and the price could not be beat. I needed an external hard drive dock for my work bench because my last one briefly caught fire and was no longer useable. Overall I like the device however I am surprised that the data transfer speed was not as fast at USB 3.0 or eSATA speeds as I expected them to be. Granted USB 3.0 was twice as fast on this device compared to a USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure. In my test I did not get close to the USB 3.0 maximum speed of 5 Gbps per sec.
This unit is common to many electronics that come from China in that is not made by USPEED. It is made by Orico with USPEED rebranding it as its own. I purchased it from Amazon.com for $29.99. I have noticed that Amazon sells it through many different vendors and the price fluctuates +/- $5 depending on when you look for it at their site. You can find the same device under many different manufacture names if you search for it under the model number 6618SUS3.
For a bench tool this is a great unit. It reads any drive I put in it using USB 3.0 or eSATA. It is a solid product for a good price. It works with drives up to 3 TB. I found that if you have other USB 3.0 hard drive devices that you will have a device conflict if you are using a USB 3.0 Hub. Plugging it in directly to the PC with the hub and other USB 3.0 device plugged into the other port I did have any issues. It was instantly recognized by the PC when using the eSATA port and the bios saw the drive on boot as well.
