I bought it to replace another backup drive with a fan going bad. I transferred a 400 GB file and the drive was barely warm to touch. The transfer rate was 22 MB/s, which is what I have found for other USB 2 drives. It came formatted as NTFS as promised. The USB 3 cable provided fits any USB port. There was a readme file on the disk, but no preloaded 'free' software that needed to be deleted. It spins up from idle in about 5 seconds. It is simply a naked 3 TB expansion disk. To me, the solid construction and lack of a fan to make noise (and possibly to fail) makes it worth the few dollars more than other 3 TB drives. Reviews of other Fantom G Force drives indicate the 3 TB drive should have high reliability. The USB 3 feature is available if I upgrade my computer.

I bought this drive to consolidate my movie collection (Blu Ray .mkv rips) that have resided on my in a 2TB drive for some time. I needed more space and this was the best solution for the money. Much like other reviewers experiences, I'm in love. Copying 2TBs of movies took a long time even using the included USB 3.0 cable (the average speed was around 140MB/S according to Windows 7 transfer screen). Despite this, the unit only barely became warm to the touch. I was impressed. Since then, I've created, expended and deleted partitions added and deleted movies and it takes everything that I do to it without a single hiccup! It is well constructed and weighty, but not so heavy as to be inconvenient for easy portability. It isn't the size of the WD 2TB drive that I was considering, but given the size and extra space, its worth the price. There is one one blue led that serves as both the power and HDD activity light. I have mine sitting horizontally, though in the photos here, it sits in a cradle vertically. The unit comes well packaged and with all the necessary power cables. If there were any "con" that I can think of it would be that periodically it spins up appropos of nothing, but it makes literally ZERO noise 99% of the time; also like most drives it is NOT completely 3TBs but reads 2.75 in Partition Magic. Nevertheless, I plugged the USB cable to my PC and then turned on the power and my PC (Windows 7 64bit) instantly recognized it, installed the drivers and it just worked flawlessly within about a minute. I'm so please with it, I'm going to buy another one, but this time I'm getting the 4TB version. You want this drive and you need this drive, don't hesitate on buying it. You won't be disappointed.
